  • Comprensión lectora de textos históricos

    Reading comprehension of historical texts

Cuesta leer un texto con vocabulario histórico y oraciones largas, y la argumentación implícita se pierde. En PISA 2022 Chile sacó 448 puntos en lectura, bajo el promedio OCDE de 476, con cerca del 35% de los estudiantes en nivel bajo. Es el prerrequisito número uno de la asignatura.

Reading a text with historical vocabulary and long sentences is hard, and implicit argumentation slips by. In PISA 2022 Chile scored 448 in reading, below the OECD average of 476, with about 35% of students at the low level. Reading comprehension is the number one prerequisite for the subject.

  • Pensamiento temporal (líneas de tiempo, simultaneidad, periodización)

    Temporal thinking (timelines, simultaneity, periodization)

Ordenar los eventos en el tiempo cuesta: las fechas se mezclan, las causas se confunden con las consecuencias, y no se ve que lo que pasaba en Chile ocurría a la vez que lo del resto del mundo.

Putting events in order is hard: dates get mixed up, causes trade places with consequences, and Chilean events are not seen as happening at the same time as world events.

  • Vocabulario histórico y conceptos clave

    Historical vocabulary and key concepts

No se entiende 'liberalismo', 'totalitarismo', 'hegemonía', 'descolonización', 'ISI', 'neoliberalismo', 'Estado de derecho' ni 'plebiscito'. Sin ese vocabulario, se lee sin comprender.

Words like 'liberalism', 'totalitarianism', 'hegemony', 'decolonization', 'ISI', 'neoliberalism', 'rule of law' and 'plebiscite' do not land. Without that vocabulary, reading is hollow.

  • Comprensión de modelos económicos y políticos

    Understanding economic and political models

Liberalismo y totalitarismo se confunden, la ISI y la apertura comercial suenan parecido, y libre mercado y planificación estatal no se distinguen.

Liberalism and totalitarianism blur together, ISI and trade opening sound alike, and free market and state planning are not told apart.

  • Conexión pasado-presente (continuidad y cambio)

    Past-present connection (continuity and change)

El pasado no se conecta con el presente y la historia queda como 'algo que pasó y ya terminó'.

The past does not connect to the present, and history becomes 'something that happened and is over'.
